VW Golf GTI ‘96 - alarm gone haywire?

Hi,

It all started when the keyfob batteries died for the fitted Logic 900 Alarm/Immobiliser. So I opened the keyfob and found the type of batteries needed (393) and replaced with 4 new batteries, but no joy. No red light when you press the button etc. This was a pain, but I could still start the car by inserting the keyfob in the utility socket to de-activate the alarm (worked 1 in 10).

I then went on holiday and upon returning had a flat battery in the car. I’ve charged the battery, but now I don’t seem to be able to de-activate the alarm at all!?

I now insert the keyfob, the light on the keyfob flashes, I insert and turn the key & the hazards come on. I try again and all the lights come on the dash, I briefly hear a whirring sound (as normal) and then everything switches off and the hazards continue.

A local VW guy said he’d rip out the alarm which will fix it, but it’s a nice, full closure alarm; I’d like to keep it if poss.

Any ideas? Has the alarm gone bad?

Cheers,
James
